"It
is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. We hold this prudent jealousy to be the first duty of
citizens, and one of the noblest characteristic of the late
Revolution. The freemen of America did not wait till usurped power had
strengthened itself by exercise and entangled the question in
precedents. The saw all the consequences in the principle, and they
avoided the consequences by denying the principle." - James Madison.
"Our
obligations to our country never cease but with our lives." - John
Adams.
"Love your neighbor as yourself and your country
more than yourself." - Thomas Jefferson.
Dear
Patriots,
If there is any blame to be laid at
the feet of the generation before mine, it is their failure to
recognize "experiments on our liberties" and to stop them before they
became "strengthened by exercise and entangled in precedents."
Where were Americans when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that our public
schools could no longer include prayer and Bible reading during the
school day - even though virtue, religion and morality are essential to
liberty? Where were Americans when state after state passed no fault
divorce laws even though families are the backbone of freedom? Where
were Americans when governments began instituting oppressive gun laws
even though the right to bear arms is the guarantee of all other
rights? Where were Americans when the government decided to monitor
what churches were teaching and preaching to determine non-profit
status - even though freedom of speech and freedom of religion are the
most basic of our God-given inalienable rights? Where were Americans
when Congress strayed outside the confines of the Constitution and
began funding and controlling highways, education, charities, social
programs, retirement programs and medical research?
For that matter, where are Americans now?
We must not be fooled by politicians or candidates who make government
programs sound inviting and prudent. We must hold our government to
the confines of the Constitution. Every question posed should be
within the context of our written Constitution. Every "solution"
should be restrained by its chains.
Remember what Ronald Reagan said, "Government isn't the solution. It
is the problem." Let's elect men and women who truly believe that and
who will give their lives to return our government to a lawful,
constitutional government.
Let's roll, Patriots!
